About the Work

"Tension" is a thought-provoking mixed media sculpture that explores the delicate balance between opposing forces. This piece examines the physical and emotional dynamics of stress, resistance, and equilibrium through the juxtaposition of organic ceramic forms and industrial metal springs.

The work features glossy black ceramic dog figures arranged in a circular formation, connected by coiled metal springs that simultaneously bind and strain against each other. This configuration creates a visual metaphor for the complex relationships and invisible forces that hold systems together while simultaneously pulling them apart, inviting contemplation on the nature of connection, stress, and interdependence.

Technique

Created using a combination of air-dry clay and steel wire, "Tension" demonstrates a clashing of textures and forms. The sculptures are meticulously hand-formed and finished with a high-gloss glaze, while the metal springs hand twisted and integrated to create both structural integrity and conceptual resonance. The piece exists as a freestanding sculpture that can be viewed from multiple angles, revealing new relationships and tensions with each perspective.
